Downey Unified High School District (DUSD) partnered with 2 Degree Shift to develop work-based learning for students. DUSD Director of College and Career Readiness John M. Harris envisioned Game Development as a way to engage students in Computer Science. Launched in Fall 2021, Downey and Warren High Schools enrolled 150 students into the pathway.
Work-based learning intent led to collaboration with Akupara Games, an Indie collective of game industry veterans with experience in developing games alongside rising stars in the field. The first game, Downey Platformer emphasizes C# and Unity. The game includes four milestones.
“we are reworking the milestones and they are in progress and will be available soon. If you have any questions, email connect@oer4cte.org”
